Ashley Comments on the Appointment of Dr. Wilson Jr. to lead White House Initiative on HBCUs

HBCU Alumnus chosen to represent as liaison between administration and nation's 105 historically Black colleges and universities


Dwayne Ashley, President & CEO, Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) offered congratulatory remarks on the appointment of Dr. John Silvanus as executive director for the White House's Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). His post will serve as the chief conduit between the President and the nation's HBCUs.

"Dr. John Silvanus Wilson Jr. brings long history of commitment to HBCUS to his new role and vast understanding of the Higher Education landscape said Dwayne Ashley. "As we move forward in times of challenge and a changing educational landscape, I am confident that his innovative thinking will be an asset to the HBCU community."

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund's 47-member public colleges and universities represent 80 percent of students that attend HBCUs and 45 percent of entering freshmen are the first in their families to attend college. Moreover, 90 percent of students require some form of financial assistance to reach their dreams of earning a college degree.
