NBA star to host Children Day and Golf Invitational

Everybody knows about the basketball exploits of former Westchester and UCLA star Trevor Ariza who was instrumental in helping the Lakers capture their 15th NBA championship in June.

Aimed at raising resources to combat the disease of asthma that afflicts millions of Americans and children, TAF will host a Children's Day Saturday at Westchester High School beginning at 12-noon.

The event will feature an estimate 300 children who suffer from wide raging complications of asthma, and the proceed will target providing medial aid and support for the children and their families.

Ariza first discovered that he suffered from the disease when he was nine years old and a collapsed lung while he was playing at UCLA led to an outlined treatment program for him.

Five years after leaving UCLA as a freshman for the NBA, Ariza has emerged into one of the rising young stars in the league, and was a significant part of the Lakers capturing the championship against the Orlando Magic.

He signed with the Houston Rockets during the off season as an unrestricted free agent, but has made it clear that he still plans on having a huge presence in the Southern California region.

On Monday Aug. 17, Ariza will be joined by some of his former Lakers teammates and celebrities for his inaugural Golf Invitation at the Friendly Hills Country Club.
