Senator Curren D. Price, Jr. (D-Los Angeles) today released the following statement on the proposed state budget compromise reached between state legislative leaders and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger:

"The fiscal sacrifices that have become necessary to secure eventual passage of the state budget will cause painful reductions in state services, particularly for those who can least afford to bear these cuts. Regrettably, these sacrifices will also mean increased costs for millions of people who rely on state-funded programs.

"None of this is satisfactory. There are no winners in this proposed state budget. The program cuts and cost increases are occurring because of our state's dire economic circumstances. The Legislature needed to reach a political compromise with Governor Schwarzenegger that would enable our state to bring this serious fiscal crisis to an end, pass a current year spending plan and pay our vendors and dedicated state employees [who are presently being paid with IOUs]."

Senator Curren Price represents the 26th Senate District, serving the cities of Los Angeles and Culver City and the communities of Baldwin Hills, Baldwin Vista, Beverlywood, Carthay Circle, Century City, the Crenshaw District, Culver City, Hancock Park, Hollywood, Hyde Park, Jefferson Park, Ladera Heights, Lafayette Square, Larchmont, Leimert Park, Los Feliz, Miracle Mile, South Central Los Angeles, View Park, West Los Angeles and Windsor Hills, among others.
