On Saturday, May 30th at 11:00 p.m., Crystal Rene' Crawford was shot in Inglewood at the corner of 95th street and Eighth avenue.

She was parked on eighth avenue in her Burgundy, 2007 Saturn Ion with three men who had recently came from a party. She was visiting a friend in Inglewood when the incident occurred, unfortunately Crystal would never get a chance to see her friend.

Witnesses stated that there was a supposed altercation that happened at the party between some potential gang members and the passengers, but no one has confirmed that story. The police did not question those who attended the party or the neighbors.

Devon, who was shot in the jaw and the leg, stated that a silver car pulled up to the driver side and began shouting obscenities from the car about a local Inglewood gang.

"I saw a black truck sitting behind the silver car. I assumed they were together because the truck never moved from its position" Devon stated.

Shots were fired hitting Crystal in the back of the head, followed by the remaining passengers. Crystal's friend called 911 for help, while Crystal's boyfriend Brandon ... pulled her into the passenger seat and drove her to Centinela Hospital where she was treated immediately.

According to the Centinela admissions report, Crystal was admitted with a gunshot wound to the head and was taken to Intensive Care. Contrary to that, close friends posted that she was on life support for two days, but eventually taken off and pronounced dead.

Crystal lived in Los Angeles and was a preschool teacher at Christian based, St. John's Lutheran in El Segundo, California. She joined St. John's Lutheran in the spring of 2008 and taught in the Lady Bug classroom to student's ages 4 and 5. This year she received her first Pre- K class at St. John's Lutheran.

St. John's Lutheran learned the devastating news Tuesday after Crystal did not report for work that Monday. The staff of six teachers were told of the ill-fated news and then told the children's parents.

Patty Ginossi, the director for St. John's Lutheran stated, "Crystal taught with love and dedication. She truly loved her students."

Every Wednesday, St. John's Lutheran holds chapel. A special service was held to allow the children to express themselves. The school and the parents set up a memorial fund for Crystal and are still dealing with the loss of a wonderful life to the St. John's Lutheran family.

"We didn't just lose a friend we lost a sister. In the end, the children know she's in heaven with God."

Crystal's mother, Wanda Crawford, has continued to stay abreast of the status of her daughter's case, but felt like the police weren't trying hard enough to find her daughter's killer.

" I feel that the Inglewood Police Department has become immune to the situation. It's time for someone to deal with this," stated Ms. Crawford.

That same day a neighbor in the Inglewood community where Crystal was killed said that they heard shots that sounded like they were trying to shoot someone deliberately instead of a drive by shooting.

Crystal's family felt that the shots were intended for someone else, and it was simply a case of mistaken identity. Currently her case is being investigated as such by the Inglewood Police Department. A suspect has yet to be arrested for her death.

Crystal's funeral was held Monday, June 22 and was attended by family and close friends. For those who knew Crystal, they have lost someone who will never be able to be replaced.
