Veteran soul singer/songwriter Phil Perry will join Norman Brown's Summer Storm at the upcoming Playboy Jazz Festival Saturday June 13th at the Hollywood Bowl, replacing popular recording artist and former NBA all-star Wayman Tisdale after his unexpected passing. Tisdale died May 15th from complications related to his two year battle with cancer. The 31st annual Playboy Jazz Festival will be held Saturday and Sunday June 13th and 14th at the Hollywood Bowl.

The revamped lineup of the ensemble featuring Grammy-winning guitarist Brown, Perry, saxophonist Eric Darius, and pianist Gail Johnson (also the group's musical director) will now perform together in a tribute to jazz bassist Tisdale.

Once dubbed the 'Pavarotti' of jazz by Downbeat Magazine, Perry has been a popular solo recording artist since the early 90s. His original songs have been recorded by Najee, Bobby Caldwell, Aretha Franklin, Noel Pointer, Ernie Watts, Lee Ritenour, and Patti Austin.

Five years into the popular annual Summer Storm tour, the rotating, multi-artist ensemble created by Brown is still a huge hit. Known for his breezy style, Brown's lengthy solo career has been in overdrive since he won a Grammy for his 2002 hit, Just Chillin'.

Good seats for the Playboy Jazz Festival are still available for both Saturday, June 13th and Sunday, June 14 in the $37.50 and $32.50 sections. Tickets can be purchased online at over the phone by calling (213) 365-3500 or at any ticketmaster outlet. For more information go to or call the Playboy Jazz Festival Hotline at (310)450-1173
