In addition, several of our community partners will make presentations and share their success stories and mentoring opportunities.
The Expo Center is the largest recreational facility in the City of Los Angeles. This $30 million dollar complex opened to the public October 2004 and was built through a unique private/public partnership with the City of Los Angeles, the Department of Recreation and Parks and the Friends of the Expo Center Board of Directors, a nonprofit agency. Their mission is to "provide affordable programs and services in a safe environment for every member of the family, with an extensive recreational and academic program for toddlers, teens, adults, and seniors.
The Los Angeles CARES Mentoring Movement's mission is to help launch the largest mentor-recruitment effort in the nation and to end the state of emergency in Black America by fulfilling our society's spiritual and social responsibility to our children. Our goal for 2009 is to recruit and connect 1000 mentors with vetted youth organizations serving children in under-served communities within the county of Los Angeles. We intend to work with partnering organizations to facilitate culturally rich and evidence based success models for transforming the lives of vulnerable young people. These goals are aligned with the National Mentoring Movement.
