Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Board Member Julie Korenstein and California Assembly Member Felipe Fuentes joined students, parents, teachers and administrators of the Panorama City community to cut the ribbon today on their new Early Education Center, located on the Chase Elementary School campus.

"I do not think it is possible to overstate the importance of early education in a child's development," Korenstein said. "Panorama City's youngest residents now have a new opportunity to get a strong start in life."

The early education center, which opens to children ages two through four-and-a-half this July, provides 175 two-semester seats and its facilities include: classrooms, food preparation area, administration offices, playfields and surface parking.

"This ribbon cutting ceremony marks a great day for children in the San Fernando Valley," California Assembly Member Felipe Fuentes said. "I have no doubt that this new early education center will bring tremendous benefits to residents of Panorama City and surrounding communities."

"We can't wait for high school or middle school or even elementary school to see that our students are successful," Local District Superintendent Jean Brown said.

"We need to begin at preschool."

"It is wonderful to be here today representing the men and women of the Facilities Services Division who made today's celebration possible through their work to plan, design and construct this early education center for this community," Acting Deputy Chief Facilities for New Construction Fred Smith said. "We are working hard every day to ensure that all students in LAUSD have a safe and healthy seat in a neighborhood school."

Valley Region Early Education Center #1 is part of LAUSD's $20.1 Billion New School Construction and Modernization Program. The program is designed to provide a safe and healthy neighborhood school on a traditional calendar for every student. To date, LAUSD has completed 77 new schools and 59 additions, providing more than 80,000 new K-12 classroom seats for students throughout the District. For more information, please visit <> .
