6th Annual 5K Walk for Women Cancer Survivors

Healing Odyssey announces its 6th Annual Empowerment Walk. The Empowerment Walk will be held at the Huntington Beach Central Park on Saturday, May 16, from 8a.m. until noon. It is one of our largest annual fundraising events to provide therapeutic weekend programs for women to learn self-healing tools and new coping skills after a cancer diagnosis.

Healing Odyssey is a non-profit organization founded in 1994 by Donna Farris, LCSW and Nancy Raymon, RN. Together they formed the organization that today has opened up a new world of friendship and support to over 1000 women who have had cancer. The weekend recovery programs are designed to bring more than the typical support group experience by offering life changing learning opportunities to help women cope with life after cancer. Our next retreat will be held October 9-11, 2009.

What brings a woman to Healing Odyssey? "Before cancer I thought I was Wonder Woman. Now I am struggling just to be a woman." What is the impact of Healing Odyssey on the life of a cancer survivor? "It was the most awesome experience of my life!" Another participant shared "It isn't for the moment that you are stuck you need courage, but for the long uphill climb back to sanity, and faith, and security." Women find the retreats to be personally enriching on so many levels.

"We are very excited about this year's Empowerment Walk. The funds raised will allow us to provide scholarships for women to participate in our weekend programs who are not financially in a position to pay for it" says Donna Farris, current Board President. The board of directors is committed to carrying on the mission of our organization - of inspiring and empowering women cancer survivors. Most of their work is fueled by passionate volunteers.
