I am not what you think

But exactly what you see

However what you see

May not be mentally conceived

Therefore allowing your vision

A deprived reality.

My physique has allowed me joy

In the physical manifestation of an athletically gifted toy

A complete contradiction of my youth

Running numbers for my Grandfather

Cooking dope for my biological father

I function well under psychological dispute

Only because my work outs provide me refuge

While some daydream

I open my eyes and scream

Only to recognize myself as naive

Another visible flaw

Unseen to those who view me only physically

I am not what you think but exactly what you see

However what you see is the key to my inner being

Judge me how you see fit

Yet understand that, respectfully, your opinion

Does not mean spit

Good or bad

Man tends to hate one another

Like a timely fad

We live in reality not a wishful mind state

So praise me not

For the natural abs

But the time it took to receive a second glance

A prideful look

Sit ups help me write hooks

I am not what you think

But exactly what you see

A black man of African decent

Who longs for monogamy

Yet most women I meet

Think a man like me most have many

Why else would I stay in shape?

Chasing women hoping to impress my next date, No

Pull ups kept me off the block from pushing weight

I must admit

I have made mistakes

There is one woman out there

Who will tell you that my love was considered fake

That was undergrad

And if I knew then what I know now

We would have had a marriage date

Tomorrow will allow my thoughts to articulate themselves

Into forms of sweat

That drip from my chin

In between sets of physical stress

They create words that my poems express

Making way for this question that is mint to test

Am I what you think?

And even more what you see

Are you what you think and even more what you see?

Possibly, yet only if that opinion was formulated by thee

Higher power within thee

Thank- you, God

For the gift to script thought to pages

Our power NOESIS

Hello World, this poem means a great deal to me as I define myself through the words. I wrote those words while dwelling within my truest self, not fearful of the judgment of others. Self-validation is important to your true self image, your ego. Have you ever sat in thought and wondered who you truly are? Many of us allow others to define our personality. So, from a psychological perspective, there is your conscious self, your unconscious self and the self that others perceive you to be. I ask you to discover your own understanding of your truest self, in spite of the opinions of others. I believe that is where our truest happiness dwells. From the Greek philosophy of Epictetus, I leave you with these words, "It is not things themselves that disturb men, but their judgments about these things".
