IMPORTANT MESSAGE: CONSTRUCTION AT LA SENTINEL OFFICE: Due to unforeseen construction work, our office is temporarily closed. We are operating business off site and still accepting ads and classified ads. View Company Directory.
This was an incredible week. So much has been going on, between Barack Obama and the pirate shooting, the economy is always an issue. The Lakers are in the playoffs, Tiger Woods struggled and then made a run at the Masters. Who will be the NBA MVP? And oh yea, Sunday was Resurrection Day (Easter for some of you). There is so much I could talk about but since I really want to write about what's on my heart, today I just want to take a moment and say Thank You!
Thank you for being a Sentinel reader. We here at the Sentinel understand that these are challenging financial times, but with all that you go through you still find it important enough to invest in the news of our community, the news of our people and we appreciate the fact that the Sentinel is your newspaper outlet of choice.
I want to Thank our political, community, business and religious leaders who stand up for the people and the issues in our community that require standing up for. Whether you are paid to do it or you are impassioned to do it, often it would be so much easier to run and hide and decide that all I care about is me and mine, but you the leaders and residents of our Sentinel Community don't do that. You show up, step up and put up day after day to fight for our children, our seniors, our community and all that is good and honorable in our community. That is what makes us strong as a people and is what will continue our progress through both the best and worst of times.
I must also thank all of you who every week take the time out of your schedule to send letters and/or emails to me and all of the Sentinel staff letting us know when we get the story right, and more importantly when you feel we got the story wrong (grammar corrections included). That is what being engaged in community action is all about. We don't always have to agree, but we do need to be able to disagree without being disagreeable.
And lastly, I want to say Thank you to all of my friends and family, those of you who sent loving notes and prayers for my son Danny Bakewell, III when he was preparing, having and after he had his knee surgery. I am happy to report he is doing GREAT! But it is always nice to know that you have a team of prayer warriors at your side whenever you need them--those prayers and kind words meant a lot to me and to D3.
Let me know who else you think is ready to assume the leadership mantle within our community. Let me know if there are any other issues we need to address, or stories we need to tell. Let me know what is on your mind I really do want to hear from you, I want you to "Talk to Danny."
