Recognized in Assembly Chambers

In a ceremony held on March 16 at the State Capitol, Assemblymember Mike Davis (48th District) honored Inola F.Henry as the 48th Assembly District's Woman of the Year. The ceremony recognized her as an exemplary California woman along with other women from across the state. All 80 Assemblymembers and their honorees participated in the annual program.

"Inola F. Henry is an inspirational leader with a long history of accomplishments," Assemblymember Davis said. "I am pleased to pay tribute to such a talented and dedicated constituent," he remarked.

"Inola has that rare combination of compassion and competence that makes her an extraordinary role model for young people. She gives selflessly to her family, her community and her entire city. Indeed, Ms Henry has truly made a real difference in our lives," he added.

A few of Inola's accomplishments are: 39-year long-time teacher and citizen activist. She is a strong labor activist, having served as former Chair of UTLA/PACE. Ms. Henry has been active at the international level serving as a Member of US Delegations to Education Internationale-Australia, Sweden, Costa Rica, Zimbabwe, Washington, DC and Thailand(NEA/AFT). Ms Henry is also long-time political activist, serving for more than two decades as Democratic Party officer and Super delegate to the DNC. She was an early DNC member to cast her vote for the first African American President. Her awards and accolades read like a Who's Who in America.

The ceremony for Woman of the Year is the centerpiece of a day-long celebration that includes a morning reception and luncheon with all the legislators and each of their Women of the Year selections. The honored women met the state's First Lady and had breakfast with the Lt. Governor.

The day's events is coordinated by the Chair of the Legislative Women's Caucus. Neither state nor legislative funds are used to pay for the activities celebrating Assemblymember Mike Davis's Woman of the Year.
