Congresswoman Diane E. Watson has been named Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform's Subcommittee on Government Management, Organization and Procurement. The subcommittee has jurisdiction over the management of government operations, reorganizations of the executive branch, and federal procurement.
"I am honored to be the new Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Government Management, Organization and Procurement and look forward to working with Chairman Ed Towns (NY) and the other members of the Committee," said Congresswoman Watson.
"President Obama has made oversight and public transparency of the expenditures of American taxpayers' dollars one of his highest and most urgent priorities. My work on the subcommittee will be timely and relevant given the billions of economic stimulus dollars that are now winding their way to the states. As part of my subcommittee's oversight efforts, I intend to hold hearings in the near term on the role of the Inspectors Generals who are charged with preventing waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government.
"I am also pleased to appoint Bert Hammond as subcommittee staff director. Mr. Hammond is a twenty-year veteran of Capitol Hill, having previously worked for the House Committee on Foreign Affairs under Chairmen Dante Fascell (FL) and Lee Hamilton (IN). Mr. Hammond is a graduate of Columbia and Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies."
Congresswoman Watson represents the 33rd Congressional District of California and has served on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee for the past 8 years.
