Los Angeles artist, educator and publisher, David G. Brown, received a NAACP Image Award for his book "Barack, Race and the Media: Drawing my own Conclusions." The book, which won in the Outstanding Literary Work-Debut Author category, is a satirical collection of political cartoons highlighting the historical presidential run of President Barack Obama and other significant events.

When Brown is not busy putting together timely editorial cartoons for the Los Angeles Sentinel to coincide with current events, he conducts art workshops, produces award winning graphic novels and comic books with positive messages for young people. The NAACP IMAGE AWARDS, which took place at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Thursday, February 12, 2009, marked its 40th broadcast, and coincided with the NAACP's 100th anniversary.

The NAACP Image Awards, is the nation's premier event celebrating the outstanding achievements and performances of people of color in the arts (motion picture, television, recording, and literature), as well as those individuals or groups who promote social justice through their creative endeavors.
