This could turn out to be an incredible year of change for African Americans on not just the political front, but the national civil rights front as well.

President Barack Obama brought about much needed change to our nation with his historical election to the highest office in the land, and my good friend The Rev. Eric Lee can do the same for the National Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

Lee is not just qualified for the post, and I would hate to see him leave for Atlanta, but he is most deserving.

The state of California has nine chapters of the SCLC and Eric Lee is responsible for growing seven of them, which is about twenty percent of all SCLC chapters nation wide.

Among his enormous responsibilities have been to oversee budgets that nearly equal are surpass that on the national level.

His qualifications exceed any that are a requirement for the position and he is poised to bring about the essential change for the organization that President Obama has brought about for the country.

National leaders of this magnitude are not just developed that are born and Lee is born and raised to be the new president of the national SCLC.

His work with the local chapter is evident that he will not duck any challenge or difficult task and is what the members of this civil rights organization needs and deserve.

Therefore I am urging all members of the SCLC to push for Eric Lee to be the next National President and lead the organization into a prosperous 21st century.
