America's Number One Black News Source Taste of Soul

Hello world, I really can't posse a question this week because the energy that surrounds my topic demands your attention in regards to prevention. The prevention of our friends, family and love ones putting themselves in precarious situations so that we can not enjoy their company until nature naturally take its course.

Some of you may already know that I reside in the Bay Area near Oakland California. I have written about this incident within the pages of my journal yet those pages are private so I've no leash on my thoughts. I've declined to discuss my personal feelings (within my column) as they pertain to the death of Oscar Grant. However, I can't stand silent anymore. Just a couple days after Oscar's death while I sat and listened to a spoken word artist recite verses, at my favorite poetry house; "the Air Lounge" off Broadway and 9th St in Oakland, there was a riot less then two miles away. Truthfully I expected that! The city of Oakland has a history fighting cruelty in regards to police brutality and the fact that it was a Caucasian officer who killed a nineteen year old African -American male, made the situation no better.

My statement "Don't do it" pertains to people of all races and creed engaging in ill and inappropriate behaviors to anyone wearing a uniform in retaliation to law enforcement. That conduct will only breed more harsh and regretful situations. Instead of negative promotions of retribution, use a more cerebral approach. Apply for the citizen review board within your local police district, and then evaluate the behaviors and actions of the police in your community. If you want to truly change the main-stream ideology of police officers, complete the hiring process and become a sworn peace officer yourself. Of course these are some bold suggestions, however, violence begets violence.

I am truly exhausted from hearing people speak of Oscar Grant's death in a non-beneficial fashion as it pertains to his friends, family and love ones. I whole -heartedly believe that the person responsible for Mr. Grant's death will suffer the maximum consequence be it judicial or spiritual. So please discontinue the primitive behavior that will only result in more hostility. In regards to this type of misdeed, it will not go unpunished. Our society has evolved and technology will allow the truth to be told. Yet understand that that same technology will punish the vengeful behavior of those who will and I quote "do it".

I ask those of you, who plan negative rebellion, trust in the words of our forefathers, "I love America for her laws, constitution and her higher sense of fair-play and justice. One can always find justice in America (The philosophy and opinions of Marcus Garvey, No. 9)".
