The annual ART Walk "Art for Young Minds" at Westchester High School is scheduled for Wednesday, December 17. from 9:00-2:00 P.M. The public is invited. Exhibits will be displayed on the campus. This event includes displays and sales of artwork by Westchester High School students and faculty, local schools, Emerson Adult School, and professional artists. There are many art forms seen at this show; acrylic, metal figurines, jewelry, ceramics, drawing, painting, abstract and realism, and wood carvings. Performing arts will be added to the show this year. There will be choirs singing, skits performing, spoken word, story telling and bands playing for the holiday season. The ART Walk will start the entrance of the WHS Library and proceed to the Social Hall, a total length of one average city block.
Fashion is another addition to this year's cadre of events. Art comes in all forms. This year's show will feature Emmy Award winning hair stylist to the stars Robert Stevenson. He will be displaying some of his wigs, hair sculptures and ink art featuring hairstyles and head gear. Along side will be Westchester High's fashion students displaying some their culturally influenced fashion creations.
Intergenerational art contributors from the veteran, Mr. Floyd Bell, master wood doll carver to the student artists are all are part of the art community in Westchester. Bell who is the bridge builder for this exhibit bringing students and professionals together on the artistic stage, quotes "My vision for the show is to have professional artists display and sell their artwork right along side the apprentice artist." This day promises to show the emerging of novice artist to the accomplished professionals both in the visual as well as performing arts. Admission to the ART Walk is free to the public.
