CNS--Fifteen people were arrested for purchasing alcohol for minors during a two-day "shoulder tap" operation in Lancaster and Palmdale, authorities said. The sting began on Friday October 24 when two decoys--one 17, the other 18--contacted 15 people at two locations in the Lancaster area, resulting in the arrests of three people who allegedly purchased beer for the minors. One of those arrested Friday was also booked for possession of narcotics, as was his companion, said Deputy Mike Kuper of the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department's Lancaster Station.
The second day of the sting was yesterday, when four minors recruited by the Sheriff's Department approached 35 people at six locations in the Palmdale area, and 12 were arrested, including one who was also booked for an outstanding felony warrant, Kuper said.
The names of the suspects were not immediately released. Deputies from the sheriff's Lancaster and Palmdale stations participated in the operation, which was funded by an Alcoholic Beverage Control grant given to the Lancaster Station to increase compliance with state laws regarding the sale of alcoholic beverages to minors, and to help deal with problematic liquor establishments, Kuper said. Anyone wanting to report establishments they think may be selling liquor to minors or conducting any other type of criminal activity was urged to call the sheriff's Lancaster Station at (661) 948-8466 or the Van Nuys office of the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control at (818) 901-5017.
