Make sure everyone you know votes, take them to the polls, call friends and see if they have already mailed their absentee ballot. Offer to pick it up, bring them stamps, drive them to Norwalk. Call your swing state relatives and make sure they understand the importance of this election.

My friends this is our time. Just 5 days from now we are going to be staring history dead smack in the face. We have the potential to have the answer to a trivia question or historical question in our hands. Where were you when Barack Obama was voted President of the United States of America? This is a moment your grandchildren or great grandchildren will be asking. Or the question could be what happened that caused Barack Obama to lose his bid as President of the United States of America?

Well, I don't even want to think of the latter, but the first and most important question we have to ask ourselves is "What did you do to help Barack Obama get elected as the President of the United States?" Did you vote? Did you make sure everyone you know voted? Did you do every and anything you could to secure this moment in history?

Well my friends, I want to be able to say YES to all of these things. That is why I have given money, I have given time, I have focused resources both here at The Sentinel, at WBOK in New Orleans and throughout The Bakewell Company to make sure we don't miss this moment in time. I have sent emails, I have argued my position and I begged and pleaded for people to stand up and step up. My family is so committed to this moment in history that my 10-year-old daughter (Bryce) even has all three of the debates downloaded onto her Ipod.

Here at the Sentinel for the next several days we are shuttling people to and from Norwalk to vote early. We are going to be here early on Tuesday, to make sure people are in line and ready to vote (The Sentinel is a polling place here on Crenshaw Boulevard). I am encouraging all of you to show up to your polling places early. If Norwalk is any indication of the record turnout, the lines will be long, but we have to be committed and patient.

As I said last week, Barack is not the only election going on, but he is the most inspirational. If you don't know who or what to vote for see the Sentinel ballot, we have our recommendations/endorsements for Supervisor, judges, state representatives and all the propositions. But most of all, Please, Please make sure you vote, your family votes, your friends vote. Black people this is our chance to make history to make a statement, to affirm our commitment that we can achieve anything if we remain committed and determined to our God, our family, our people and we put in the work necessary to prepare ourselves for greatness.

I am sure that Tuesday night is going to be a night full of tears, the question is will they be tears of joy, or tears of defeat? I am praying for tears of joy, but as the bible says "For just as a body without spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead"

So, whether you agree or disagree, now more than ever I really need your input. I need to hear from you. I need to know what is going on in our community. I also need to know what other stories we need to tell, and what is on your mind. I really do want to hear from you, I want you to "Talk to Danny."

Sincerely,

Danny J. Bakewell, Jr.
