The Colin Powell endorsement makes me feel really good about the status of the Barack Obama campaign. The results of every poll I see on MSNBC, CNN and NBC make me feel even better (I don't watch FOX). But then reality hits. On Saturday at Taste of Soul, between the Register Recorder's Office, The AKAs, The Church of Latter Day Saints and The Sentinel team and several loyal volunteers we registered a little over 600 people.

Then on Sunday The Parks for Supervisor Office registered about 400 people and Magic Johnson Theatre registered 1000. On Monday, I was at Magic Johnson Starbucks with Guy Black and KJLH registering people to vote and before 9am we had registered about 45 people. Come on people, this is supposed to be our year. We are supposed to be motivated and inspired to vote for Barack Obama for President. We are supposed to be excited about this Supervisors race and we are supposed to be driven to make a difference with all of these propositions that are on the ballot.

So with all of this motivation and things going on, why are we waiting until the very last minute to get registered? Now I know some people will say, "that's how we are," and that "we are on CP time," but come on people, history is in our hands and we have to get this one right. Now, the blessing is that the people did get registered and they did get registered in time, but It also makes me realize that we must press our people, our friends and our relatives to show up and vote.

Getting to the polls and voting is going to be the crucial part of this operation and we cannot take anything for granted. So please and I will probably say this again and again, make sure people show up to the polls to vote. Like Barack said, we really need to vote early, and we will be pushing and begging all of you to vote early. You can come to the Sentinel any Tuesday and we will take you to Norwalk to vote, or we will come and pick up your absentee ballot and make sure it gets in to the register recorders.

Here at the Sentinel we are and want to be the place you go to get the information you need about what is happening in our community. So if you need help call on us, if you want to know our recommendations see our slate here in the paper. If you want more info, call us or email us.

So, whether you agree or disagree, now more than ever I really need your input. I need to hear from you. I need to know what is going on in our community. I also need to know what other stories we need to tell, and what is on your mind. I really do want to hear from you, I want you to "Talk to Danny."

Sincerely,

Danny J. Bakewell, Jr.
