The United States Congress is expected to pass The Emmett Till Unsolved Civil Rights Crime Act, legislation that would authorize funding for the Justice department to hire investigators to solve civil rights-related murders that took place before 1970.

Last year the Till Bill was passed by the House of representatives, and this year the bill is expected to be passed as early as July 24.

Strongly supported by local justice seeker Alvin Sykes, president of the Emmett Till Justice Campaign, and backed by senate majority leader Harry Reid (R-Nevada), the Till Bill could become law soon.

“It will strike fear in the hearts of old men who thought long ago that they could get away this and otherwise live a respectful life,” Sykes said. “It lets them know that they’ll be prosecuted of will die in fear of being the next one they come for.”
