The Los Angeles Dodgers will continue their support of several community programs created by Dodger players and coaches, with Dodger first baseman James Loney’s new initiative, “Loney’s Lounge.”

Loney, an alumnus of the RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) program, will launch “Loney’s Lounge,” in support of MLB’s RBI Los Angeles, today with a first-of-its-kind event at Dodger Stadium, a video game party hosted by Loney.

“I’m really looking forward to spending time with these kids and giving back to the RBI program,” said Loney. “This event is just the start of the program and I’m excited to bring more kids out to Dodger Stadium throughout the season.”

RBI Los Angeles fosters a love of baseball, gives local kids the opportunity to play in an organized league, and is fully supported by MLB and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Forty youngsters from RBI Los Angeles will join Loney and his teammates in the 1st Baseline Box Club where they will play Activision’s Guitar Hero(r) and Kung Fu Panda(tm) on Xbox 360(tm) consoles.

The concept for the occasion and subsequent program was conceived by Loney, an avid gamer and proud product of MLB’s RBI program.

The “Loney’s Lounge” video game party begins at approximately 4 p.m., today, after the Dodger game against the Chicago White Sox at 12:10 p.m. All 40 youngsters attending the video game party will also be treated to tickets and enjoy the Interleague game beforehand. G4 network’s “X-play” will attend the event to interact with the youngsters and share expert gaming tips.

“Loney’s Lounge” will then continue throughout the season and will host seven youngsters per date from RBI Los Angeles in the exclusive first Baseline Box Club seats. Groups will receive tickets to the game, a “Loney’s Lounge” t-shirt, and will meet and take photos with Loney during batting practice on the following days:

Braves, 7:10 p.m.

In 2007, the Dodgers and the Dodgers Dream Foundation assisted more than 5,000 local youth organizations by renovating baseball fields in the community, through player appearances, and by donating more than 100,000 tickets, autographed memorabilia, donation of used equipment and much more. Last season, the Dodgers Dream Foundation affected hundreds of thousands of local youth through its various programs.

In addition to Loney, Dodgers Andre Ethier, Andruw Jones, Matt Kemp, Brad Penny, and Juan Pierre, and Dodger legend Fernando Valenzuela have programs that benefit the community this season.
