Silver Rose Weekend Set April 27 -28
As if she hasn’t already done enough during her years as chair of Jenesse Center’s annual fundraising gala, and more recently chair or its $2.5 million “Year of Giving” fundraising campaign, Academy Award-winning actress Halle Berry will partner with Jenesse Center to host her inaugural Celebrity Golf Classic as part of the organization’s Silver Rose Weekend, April 27th and 28th in Los Angeles.
Continuing her long-term role as a major supporter and ambassador for South Los Angeles’ oldest domestic violence intervention program, Ms. Berry will chair Jenesse Center, Inc.’s “The Power of One” Silver Rose Gala beginning at 11:30 a.m., Sunday, April 26, 2008 in the Beverly Hills Hotel & Bungalows, 9641 Sunset Blvd., Beverly Hills and the first annual “Halle Berry Celebrity Golf Classic Benefiting Jenesse Center” beginning at 8:30 a.m., Monday, April 28th in the MountainGate Country Club, 12445 MountainGate Drive, Los Angeles.
“I am really excited about the Silver Rose Weekend, but I’m more excited about what its success means to families in crisis,” Ms Berry said. “I donate my time and resources to Jenesse Center because I strongly believe in this agency and have seen first hand the difference that they make in the lives of children and women in their community,” she added.
“We are absolutely ecstatic that Ms. Berry has elected to extend her already stellar support to Jenesse by hosting not one, but two magnificent events for us during what we’re calling our fabulous weekend that never ends,” commented Jenesse Executive Director Karen Earl. “Ms. Berry’s support of Jenesse has been invaluable over the years in so many ways, including bringing the issue of domestic violence to the forefront,” she said.
Brainchild of Jenesse Board member, Othella T. Owens, M.D., the inaugural Halle Berry Celebrity Golf Classic will add another dimension of support opportunities for Jenesse Center, Inc. It also adds another level of “firsts” for Ms. Berry and the organization.
“Best of all, we’re going to give our first Pioneer in Golf Award to Renee Powell, who has made history as only the second African American woman to play in the Ladies Professional Golf Association,” Dr. Owens said. “I feel honored and privileged to know that my work as a Jenesse Board member and Golf Classic Chair will contribute to making a real difference in the lives of those most vulnerable among us,” she added.
Expanding the 2008 Silver Rose Gala, which under the theme, “The Power of One” will honor those who have utilized their personal power to embody the spirit of service, giving and community to also include the Halle Berry Celebrity Golf Classic provides a second opportunity for others to support the organization’s mission, according to Ms. Earl. “We invite potential supporters and participants to join in,” she said.
Founded in 1980, Jenesse Center Inc. provides culturally sensitive programs, services and outreach efforts to heal families and connect communities by providing a comprehensive, centralized base of support and services that ensures a transition from immediate crisis to stability and self-sufficiency.

“Our Silver Rose Weekend is being held to salute individuals and institutions whose contributions enable Jenesse to provide comprehensive services that change lives,” explained Ms. Earl. “We are proud to salute those who have helped Jenesse Center provide needed services to its clients for more than 28 years,” she added. “These are the special people who unite to ensure our families and communities, heal grow and thrive.”
