As we start this holiday season, I pray that all of you have a safe and blessed holiday. No matter what religion you are and how deep your faith, I hope we all take a little time out of our hectic schedules to give thanks for the many blessings that have come our way, reflect on the good and bad that has occurred in our lives and in our community this year and strategize about how to really crank it up next year.
I also want to ask as many of you as possible to share your gifts and blessings with a needy family this year. You can do this in so many ways. You can join The Sentinel, Mothers in Action, Jenesse Center for Battered Women and The Steve Harvey Show (KDAY 93.5) at the Baldwin Hills Mall December 19 for our annual toy drive, or you can just make a donation to your favorite community based organization. Or you and your family can adopt a family (come by the Sentinel office—we have seniors and children you can adopt for the holidays).
What I am asking most of all is that you and your family get involved. We all know the sayings “each one, teach one,” “it takes a village to raise a child,” or my personal favorite, “for whom much is given, much is required.” But what I want to do, and what I am asking each of you to do is live that saying, demonstrate it to the best of your ability and that will make life better. I promise you it will make a tremendous difference in your life and your family’s life. That is my wish for you.
Don’t forget I am offering a buy one subscription, gift one subscription for $60.00 during the month of December. I hope that you will all take me up on this offer, because we must continue to teach our friends and family the importance of continuing to support Black media (If we don’t support US, who will?)
Also, go to our website and take our year-end survey at www.lasentinel.net. As we prepare for our year-end wrap-up, it is you the people in our community who we want to participate in letting the world know what is and who is really important in our community.
So, now more than ever, I really want to hear from you. I want to know what you think about what I have been writing about, I want to know what you think about the stories we tell, and I want to know what things we need to cover in the future. I really do want to hear from you, I really want you to Talk To Danny.
Sincerely, Danny J. Bakewell, Jr. President & Executive Editor
