CNS - Mayor Antonio Villarai-gosa rejected a 4.16 percent raise, his office announced Nov. 14.
The mayor currently makes $223,142 a year.
“With the city of Los Angeles facing a tough budget year, I do not believe now is the time for me to accept an automatic and retroactive pay raise,” Villaraigosa said in a statement. “Being mayor of Los Angeles is reward enough, and I’m committed to working 24/7 to protect essential services.”
The salaries of the mayor, city council members, controller and city attorney of Los Angeles are tied to that of Superior Court judges.
The Judicial Council of California voted last week to increase compensation for Superior Court judges statewide, triggering an automatic adjustment of the Los Angeles officials’ salaries.
Council members’ salaries will increase to $178,789; the controller’s annual pay will rise to $196,667; and the city attorney’s raise will bring his compensation to $214,546.
