A God-directed journey through three countries comes to fruition on Sunday, March 11, at 4 p.m., when Bishop Edward G. McLachlan and Calvary Community Church of Compton - Church of God in Christ dedicates a new worship center.

The beautiful edifice, located at 950 West Alonda Boulevard, will house the many ministries of Calvary as well as serve as the headquarters for the jurisdiction of Puerto Rico where Bishop McLachlan is the presiding prelate.

Participants in the joyous occasion include COGIC Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake, Supervisor
Marjorie Y. McLachlan-Booker, Elder Aston P. "Jeff" McLachlan, Business Manager; Elder Tawan Robinson, Jurisdictional Secretary; Elder Amos Lawson, Treasurer; Elder A. Ricky Cheatham, Chief Adjutant; and Calvary's members and friends.

Bishop McLachlan's journey began as a child in Jamaica and continued in London, England when his parents, the Rev. and Mrs. L.O. McLachlan, were appointed the first COGIC Bishop and State Supervisor in Great Britain.

Next, the younger McLachlan was sponsored to America in 1952 by the late Bishop and Mrs. Benjamin Crouch, the parents of Andre and Sandra Crouch. His sister, Supervisor Mother Jean Victoria McLaughlan-Reynolds, remained in London and continues to serve as the COGIC State Supervisor of Women for Great Britain.

Then, God moved Bishop McLachlan to another level in 1996 with his appointment to Overseer of Puerto Rico and three years later, elevated him to Prelate of the Commonwealth.

"Who could have known, but the Lord, that Bishop McLachlan's journey would eventually lead him to California and lead us in building in Compton the first church from the ground up in 65 years and it would be the headquarters for the jurisdiction of Puerto Rico," said Elder Bruce A. Boyden, Project Administrator.

Under Bishop McLachlan's leadership, Calvary Community Church supports many ministries in Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and Guatemala. Their efforts include donating school supplies, establishing senior housing, and implementing a street ministry.

"There are so many who contributed to Calvary's outreach and today, we know that we will continue to triumph in Christ as we move forward," said Elder Boyden.

The public is invited to attend the dedication service at Calvary Community Church of Compton-COGIC also known as ‘A Church of Love and Harmony.' For information, call (424) 785-7088.
