Council president, Herb Wesson surrounded by the clergy and the community.

Wesson honored by the clergy and the community to be accountable as the first Black president of the L.A. City Council

The City Council’s election of Councilmember Herb Wesson as President ?of the Los Angeles City Council was celebrated by over 100 area?ministers and other religious leaders at FAME Renaissance.

Leading the tribute for Council President Wesson at the event were?host Pastor John Hunter, Senior Pastor of First AME Church, and Bishop?T. Larry Kirkland, Presiding Prelate, Fifth Episcopal District, Pastor?Louis Gates of Southern Missionary Baptist Church, former?Councilmember Nate Holden, and Elder Charles Blake, II, of West?Angeles Church of God in Christ who served as Master of Ceremonies.

Bishop Kirkland brought a moving and inspiring message about the power?of prayer, and the pride the community has in Wesson’s rise to the?Council Presidency.

Council President Wesson gratefully acknowledged the strong support he?has received from the Los Angeles religious community, and pledged his?best efforts on their behalf.

“I am honored to serve you and the City of Los Angeles, said Wesson.?“Our city faces many challenges.  With your support and with your?prayers, I know that we will prevail.”??
