The contributions of ancient African civilizations to world history are awe inspiring. Math, science and engineering all trace their beginnings to African civilizations.
Great leaders, organizers and warriors like Hannibal, Candace the Queen of Ethiopia and Shaka Zulu are just a few of the ancient African leaders who have laid a foundation of strategic skill leadership, determination and courage for new millennium leaders.
These men and women were builders of people, communities, nations and networks. They laid the foundation for great builders of the 19th and 20th centuries and leaders like Toussaint L’Ouverture, Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Henry Highland Garnett, Sojourner Truth, Hali Selaisse, Kwameh Nkrumah, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Mary McLeod Bethune, Malcolm X, Ella Baker, Martin Luther King Jr., Jesse Jackson, Oprah Winfrey, Danny Bakewell, Bill Cosby, Nelson Mandela and Haki Madhubuti!
Recently, after finishing a series of teachings that equipped people to “Live The Abundant Life” through discipline, self mastery and self surrender to God in Christ, I began to search the scripture for direction for the rest of 2007.
Nehemiah 2:18 kept coming into my mind, heart and spirit: Let us rise up and build! This theme kept repeating itself: It’s time to build again!
Nehemiah was a government worker who worked for the oppressor, lived in the oppressors’ country and was accepted into the oppressors system. Yet, Nehemiah was committed and devoted to his God and people.
When Nehemiah received news that his people and community were divided, broken and destroyed, he prayed! His prayer birthed in him God’s plan to rebuild a broken people and community. The plan released God’s purpose for his life and Nehemiah began to strategically pursue his purpose to empower God’s people to build again!
IT’S TIME TO BUILD AGAIN! After doing his homework Nehemiah went to his community to involve them in this divine rebuilding movement. Nehemiah gave them information: You see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lies waste and it’s gates are burned with fire (Nehemiah 2:17a)
Do you see the distress that your community and nation are in today?
Nehemiah gave them inspiration: And I told them of the hand of my God which had been good upon me and upon also of the king’s words that he had spoken to me...(Nehemiah 2:18a).
Do you know that you are alive today because of God’s protecting, providing and powerful hand upon your life?
Nehemiah discovered that information + inspiration = intelligent, intense involvement! And the people responded: let us rise up and build (Nehemiah 2:18b)
IT’S TIME TO BUILD AGAIN!
It’s time to rebuild a strong spiritual, economic and political relationship with Africa. It’s time to rebuild our families and communities. It’s time to rebuild a Black Unified Front that respects our diversity while building power for the people.
It’s time to rebuild our own education and economic systems and networks.
We can make it happen in our lifetime!
If Japan could recover from a nuclear bomb destroying two of it’s great cities and breaking the nation and then develop as a world power-we can make it happen!
If India could recover from years of global racism and colonialism to become a 21st century educational, technological and economic powerhouse-we can make it happen!
If China could recover from years of European domination and oppression on top of internal division to become the new superpower of the 21st century-we can make it happen!
Jesus gave us the key to rebuilding when he declared that he had all power in his hands! We’ve got the power to rebuild again
We’ve got the plan to rebuild again: For we are God’s fellow workers and you are God’s building... I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid which is Jesus Christ. I Cor. 3: 9-11. Now, we need the passion to rebuild: IT’S TIME TO BUILD AGAIN!!

Must Jesus bear the cross alone and all the world go free?
No, there’s a cross for everyone and there’s a cross for me.
