At Walmart, we believe in a philosophy of operating globally and giving back locally.

We want to do things right, but we also want to do the right thing. And giving back to the community is always the right thing to do.

Walmart is proud to be a "store of the community." That means we aren't just a neighborhood store, it means we're a good neighbor. Within Los Angeles County we operate 27 stores, five of those within the City of Los Angeles. One of our most established stores is our Baldwin Hills location.

Walmart has become a fixture in Baldwin Hills since opening our doors as a tenant in Crenshaw Mall in January 2003, five years after the building was vacated by a department store. The 3-story building with its art deco elements is considered a landmark in the community. By locating in the Crenshaw district, we were able to fill a void and provide accessible, affordable shopping for the residents in this underserved area.

Walmart recently held a community event at the store to showcase our store remodel--with great resident feedback.

We will continue to strive to be a good neighbor in the community by supporting important community organizations, including the Los Angeles Urban League, Union Rescue Mission and Inner City Arts, among others. We are also proud to partner with First Lady Michelle Obama on her campaign to reduce childhood obesity by promoting healthier lifestyles.

As your neighbor we are pleased to support the Sentinel's 'Taste of Soul.'
