 Sentinel cartoonist receives 2012 top honors from NNPA for Best Editorial Cartoon

 Los Angeles, June 2012-David G. Brown, Los Angeles Artist and contributing editorial cartoonist for the Los Angeles Sentinel newspaper received the 2012 Merit Award for "Best Editorial Cartoon" by the National Newspaper Publishers Association. The awards were announced last week at their annual conference June 20 thru 23 in Atlanta, Georgia. The Merit award is presented annually to newspapers in a number of categories for contributions that uphold the highest standards of journalism and publishing in newspaper publishing. The award-winning cartoon highlights the frustrations the average consumer experiences when dealing with unjustified fees from banks and other financial institutions.

Brown's work is currently featured in an exhibit at the Museum of African American Art entitled "Heroes, Saints and Sinners: The Artistic World of David G. Brown." Two decades in the making, the exhibit showcases Brown's range of work including children-inspired art, fantasy, political art and election of the first African American President. Motivated by the L.A. Riots, inner-city justice, and our next generation, Brown uses his art to heal and inspire. The exhibit celebrates the passion of one man's artistic journey from commercial art to cartoon Art, giving hope to the community. The exhibit will be on display through August 31, 2012.

In addition to numerous other awards in 2009 Brown received an NAACP Image award for his book "Barack, Race and the Media: Drawing my Own Conclusions." You can see more of David G.
