Agnes Gee

Los Angeles resident Agnes Gee passed away on July 11, at the age of 97.  Among the highlights of her long life was capturing images of Hollywood celebrities at her studio on Central Avenue during the 1940s and 1950s.

A member of Greater Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church, Agnes enjoyed a fulfilling career through photography, writing and acting. Shortly after coming to Los Angeles in 1945, she opened her photography studio that was frequented by stars such as Marilyn Monroe and Hattie McDaniels.

Agnes later traveled to Israel for a pilgrimage of the Holy Land where she was baptized in the Jordan River and touched the walls of Jericho.  She also volunteered at the Fred Jordan Rescue Mission on skid row.  During her tenure, she received her minister’s license and counseled and taught many clients.

The homegoing service was held July 21 at Greater Temple of God Christian Fellowship Church led by the Rev. Dr.  W.T. Snead.  Her pastor, the Rev. Harold L. Mitchell, officiated at the service. Following the interment at Angelus Rosedale Cemetery, Mr. and Mrs. T. McPheeters hosted a repast at their home in Compton.
