Moving towards the observance of Christ's resurrection, six A.M.E. churches will kick-off the 3rd Annual Community Lenten Caravan on Ash Wednesday, February 22, at Price Chapel A.M.E. Church, 4000 West Slauson Avenue in Los Angeles.

Rev. Cedric V. Alexander is the host pastor for the first of six Caravan services. Other participating Caravan pastors and churches are the Rev. Dr. Allen Williams of First A.M.E.-Pasadena, the Rev. Darryl Walker of New Philadelphia A.M.E., the Rev. John Cager III of Second A.M.E., the Rev. Dr. Clyde Oden of Bryant Temple A.M.E. and the Rev. Dr. Kelvin Calloway of Bethel A.M.E.

According to Pastor Alexander, "The Community Lenten Caravan services will be held at alternating Caravan locations each Wednesday to commemorate the Christian tradition of Lent that starts on Ash Wednesday and ends on Resurrection Sunday. The purpose of Lent is to experience prayer, penitence, almsgiving and self-denial.

"We encourage the community to come out and share in this spirit-filled kick-off worship experience with our other sister churches and congregations. The evangelist for the night will be the Rev. John Cager, the proud, popular and powerful pastor of Second A.M.E."

The program will include a light dinner served from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., and the worship service starting at 7 p.m.

For dates and locations of upcoming Community Lenten Caravan services, call the Price Chapel church office at (323) 296-2406.
