Los Angeles    Construction contractors will join government agency representatives, leaders of community-based organizations and other prominent community members at the 2012 Southern California Construction Compliance Summit, set from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 27th taking place at the Carson Community Center located at 3 Civic Plaza, Carson, California.

Topics will include the challenges of utilizing DBE/DVBE/MBE/SEB/UDBE and WBE businesses; the new norm of hiring local and disadvantaged workers; and the difference between union and nonunion contracting. This free event is sponsored by the United Job Creation Council; the National Association of Minority Contractors, Southern California; and Playa Vista Job Opportunities and Business Services (PVJOBS).

“This free event is for contractors and subs interested in compliances issues and potential solutions,” says PVJOBS Executive Director, Ernest Roberts. “The day is just the beginning of a strategy to fill the construction industry’s long-held need for a forum where they can connect to vital community services and appropriate business partners.”

Event panelists work at a variety of public and private companies, including Caltrans; L.A. Metro; U.S. Department of Labor; the Small Business Association; the California High Speed Rail Authority; the LA Department of Water and Power; the LAUSD; the Los Angeles Community College District; the California PUC; and the California Board of Equalization.

“Attendees will leave well-versed in local government compliance issues,” Roberts said. “We all feel that job creation in our industry will lead the way out of our nation’s economic downturn and this summit is a step in the right direction.”
