The members of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church will honor Pastor Reginald and Lady Juanita Pope with the 37th Appreciation Services starting Sunday, October 21, at 3:30 p.m.
The celebration continues on Thursday, October 25 and Friday, October 26 at 7:30 p.m., with the culmination service on Sunday, October 28 at 3:30 p.m. All events take place in the edifice located at 10905 South Compton Avenue in Los Angeles.
“We invite the public to attend all services. Our theme is ‘Our Pastor and Lady Pope, Continuing in the Love of Christ’ based on St. John 15:9,” said Anniversary Chair Lillian Hale-Smith.
“Different auxiliaries of Bethel will host each worship and guest pastors and churches will also participate.”
Dr. Pope, who came to Bethel in 1975, is only the fourth pastor in the church’s history. Under his leadership, the building was renovated, the sanctuary was enlarged, several outreach ministries were implemented and the highly regarded School of Evangelism was established.
This year alone, Dr. Pope has mentored 11 associate ministers, provided scholarships and support for college students, and produced the Community Back-to-school Rally and Health Fair.
Active in the Watts community, Dr. Pope serves on the Watts Cinema and Education Advisory Council and is a consultant to the South L.A. Home Ownership Center. In addition, his image is enshrined in the Watts Walk of Fame Promenade of Prominence.
