The ambulance service will be on hand at ‘Taste of Soul’ to lend their services to those who may need it.
Taste of Soul is known for many things, from its vendors to the entertainment, but one of its proudest accomplishments is the peace present at every festival. The community truly comes together in brotherly and sisterly love—and never has there been one unpleasant incident. Explorer One Ambulance and Medical Services (EOAMS) is there to ensure it stays that way.
Established in 2009, EOAMS is a minority-owned and operated medical service based in Compton, CA. Founder and owner, Steve Muhammad is a product of the city and takes pride in what EOAMS offers and means to the community.
“I worked for the Compton Fire Dept. and somebody challenged me to [start a company],” said Muhammad. “I saw a need in the community for a [company] that was going to service the inner community.”
EOAMS personnel are highly-trained and “compassionate’ about their job. Muhammad makes sure that his staff is up to the tasks and ready to serve the community at large.
“We’re a community-oriented emergency services company,” said Muhammad. “We always participate in giving back to the community which is different than most companies that’s about monetary gain.”
Muhammad draws from his own experiences growing up in Compton and the struggles he faced as a youth. He hopes by having his own company, he can channel those experiences into a positive light for other youth through EOAMS. They will be at Taste of Soul.
“We are providing emergency services, our E.M.T services, for [Taste of Soul in case of an emergency],” said Muhammad.
More than providing safety and help, if the need should arise, Muhammad hopes that EOAMS’ presence will be a positive influence on youth.
“What’s lacking in our community is positive images— for our [minority youth]” said Muhammad. “To be able to see positive images in uniform— by [EOAMS] being out there… that is a demonstration of how we can be better as people.”
