Venice's Alijah Lee had some running room as his team knocked off Fairfax and won the Western League title. Venice is the one team that looks like they could throw a wrench into a potential Narbonne/Crenshaw match up in the City Championship game. Photo by Jason Lewis
The playoffs are here and to nobody's surprise Narbonne grabs the No. 1 seed, followed by Crenshaw and Venice in the City Section's Division I bracket.
Narbonne and Crenshaw have been on a collision course for the City championship game since the end of the non-league schedule. If Narbonne takes home the title, chances are they will be the second City Section team to play in the State Bowl. Crenshaw in 2009 being the first.
If Crenshaw takes home the title they will have a very good argument that they should play in the State Bowl.
Venice is the one team that looks like they could throw a wrench in a potential Narbonne/Crenshaw match up. Barring any upsets, they are on course to play Crenshaw in the semifinals.
Typically in the first round of the City Section's playoffs, the top eight seeds have an easy time with the bottom eight seeds, and Locke ended up being the unlucky team to be matched up against Narbonne. But there are a couple tough match ups.
The best match up in the area looks like it will be No. 10 Palisades at No. 7 Dorsey. The teams have contrasting styles, as Palisades grinds it out on the ground nearly every play, while Dorsey gets the ball to open spaces to take advantage of their athletic ability.
If Dorsey handles business and gets out of there with a win, they will be looking at a rematch with Crenshaw in the second round. Crenshaw defeated Dorsey 34-14 earlier this season.
One Division II match up that looks worth attending is View Park at Jefferson. Both teams look evenly matched with 7-3 records.
In the Southern Section, perennial powers Long Beach Poly and Bishop Amat will face each other at Veteran Stadium in Long Beach and Lakewood will travel to Mater Dei.
