Kinecta Federal Credit Union and Nix Financial Host Food Drive Event for 1,000 Deserving Families
Over 1,000 local families identified by participating community-based organizations as those in need over the holiday season received a bag of traditional Thanksgiving food items, along with a $75 gift certificate, courtesy of Kinecta Federal Credit Union and Nix Financial's 39th annual Holiday Food Drive to provide low-income families with assistance during the holidays.
On hand at the Jesse Owens Park Gymnasium to recognize the collaborative effort between the businesses and community partners were State Senator Curren D. Price, Carson City Councilman Mike
Gipson, and nationally recognized Watts community activist "Sweet" Alice Harris.
As the local economy continues on a path to recovery, the high demand for food assistance still exists.
This annual event is an opportunity for employees of Kinecta Federal Credit Union, its subsidiary Nix Financial, and long-time corporate sponsor MoneyGram, to collaborate with more than 35 non-profit organizations and churches on a countywide effort to provide temporary relief to deserving families.
More than $53,000 was raised through customer, member, and employee donations at Kinecta and Nix locations, along with corporate sponsors.
"We're extremely proud to carry on this tradition of helping to provide holiday meals to deserving families, especially during these challenging economic times," said Keith Sultemeier, CEO, Kinecta Federal Credit Union. "The food drive brings our employees and partners together to give back to the communities where our members, customers and employees live, work and worship."
Among the community organizations participating this year are: Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center, Centro de Niños, Dollarhide Senior Center, Drew League Foundation, El Centro De Pueblo, King Drew Magnet Medical H.S., My Sister, My Friend BCS, Para Los Niños, Parents of Watts, Richstone Family Center, Salvation Army of Compton, South Bay Family Health Care Clinic, Training and Research Foundation, Union Station Homeless Services, VFW of El Monte- Post 10218 and Watts/Willowbrook Boys & Girls Club.
